In 2018, national attention was paid to resistance and reflecting on peace and freedom. The small acts of resistance that saved us. The silent heroes who have never seen themselves as heroes. But how important were their actions? That piece of humanity that reminds us that we are still human and have not turned into beasts. That we have been able to resist the call of the dark. Resistance without violence is there to keep our courage alive.
THEME: PERSONAL RESISTANCE
STORY: THE ANGEL OF ARNHEM
During WW2, people showed public resistance, at great risk to their own lives, by displaying various signs of resistance such as O.Z.O. (Oranje (the Netherlands) will win), the V of Victory, the W of Wilhelmina, or orange badges. Today people colour their profile pictures on social media when they want to display a positive position. We therefore see this new form of resistance, anno 2018, as standing for something. Alone, together or (un) consciously with an entire group. In the Bridge to Liberation Experience, we approach the theme of resistance from the present day; personal resistance = standing for something.
