Experience

Experience

On Friday 20 September 2019, the John Frost Bridge at Arnhem is once again the setting for the experience, this year marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem. An experience with music, special effects, film and dance that takes you in spectacular fashion through true personal stories from the time of the Battle of Arnhem. Exciting, beautiful and moving stories that mean that you could easily believe you were actually there.

Bridge to Liberation is part of the Arnhem Remembrance Evening program. This starts at 6:00 pm with the commemoration of invited guests in the Eusebius, the wreath laying ceremony on the Airborneplein at 7:15 pm, after which the experience starts at 8:30 pm at the John Frost Bridge.

The memorial evening will be broadcast LIVE at Omroep Gelderland.

The impact of war and the value of freedom.

Prior to Bridge to Liberation, we will commemorate the Battle of Arnhem (17-25 September 1944) and the subsequent forced evacuation of the inhabitants of Arnhem in the presence of the veterans at the official commemoration on Airborneplein. The attendees will then honour those veterans who return to Arnhem with their families each year, keeping the stories alive and passing them on to future generations.

War has many faces. There is not one truth. Every person has their own experience of the past. Wherever people are, there are different perceptions and different memories. Personal stories therefore give many faces to one event. Bridge to Liberation tells several different personal stories from the British, Polish, German and Dutch point of view.

In 2019, it will be the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem, a jubilee year in which the path to liberation is remembered internationally. A moment in which people at local, regional, provincial, national, and international level stop to consider the Battle of Arnhem and its impact.
