JEANGU MACROOY
Born in Paramaribo in 1993, Jeangu Macrooy began his musical journey at a young age as a member of a musical duo with his twin brother. After moving to the Netherlands in 2014, he signed to Unexpected Records and released his debut EP Brave Enough (2016), which quickly gained him fame and was nominated for an Edison Pop as Best Newcomer.
With his soulful debut album High On You (2017), he performed at renowned festivals and achieved success in both the Netherlands and Suriname. He was supposed to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020 with his song “Grow,” but this did not go ahead due to Covid-19 pandemic. His third studio album Summer Moon (2022) showcases his forthright and diverse musical style, returning to soulful sounds mixed with electronic influences.
