2014 was dominated by the 70th anniversary of Operation Market Garden; a special commemoration in the presence of the veterans on Airborneplein was followed by the first edition of the multimedia spectacle, the Bridge to Liberation Experience. In front of the public, the John Frost Bridge was covered in images and sounds telling the story of Operation Market Garden, the Battle of Arnhem, the withdrawal, the evacuation, and the reconstruction of the city through the eyes of an 11 year old girl.
Story: The Battle of Arnhem
The first experience, created to commemorate the Battle of Arnhem together and in a new way, told the story of the Battle of Arnhem from the very beginning. From when the paratroopers began to land in the area around Arnhem. It also covered the moment that the people of Arnhem had to leave their homes quickly, only being able to return to their beloved Arnhem much later, after the Netherlands had been liberated. And about what they found there.
