Edsilia Rombley often leaves a lasting impression with her performances. During the Bridge to Liberation screen experience, she will perfectly convey the feeling of the stories.
Edsilia Rombley represents unparalleled versatility. Soul, pop, jazz, R&B. Up-tempo, ballads. She sings Dutch and English songs with equal ease and alternates her theater tours with television appearances. As one of the Ladies of Soul, she has already performed 15 times in a sold-out Ziggo Dome. Her latest theater tour, The Piano Ballads & More, brought Edsilia to numerous theaters throughout the Netherlands.
WARM, DISARMING, WITH HUMOR AND A WINK
She recorded her album "Sweet Soul Music" with the Metropole Orchestra. The album was released on April 12, 2013, and reached number 7 in the Album Top 100. During the eponymous theater tour in 2013 and 2014, Edsilia showcased soul like no other. In 2016, Edsilia celebrated her 20th anniversary and toured 30 theaters throughout the Netherlands with her brand-new theater tour, "Mama Sings." Inspired by the current phase of her life, she brought her personal life—as a married woman and hardworking mother of two beautiful daughters—to life in the show. In her own unique way—warmly, disarmingly, with humor and a wink—she spoke about this special period in her life and translated it into beautiful, personal songs. She sings, surprises, and moves by delivering each song in her own unique way.
PASSION FOR MUSIC AND SINGING
Edsilia Francisca Rombley was born on February 13, 1978, in Amsterdam. Her passion for music and singing was instilled in her from an early age. When her mother divides the cleaning chores among her children on weekends, she puts on the most wonderful soul tunes. With the stereo at full volume, Edsilia, along with her brother Dino and sister Michealine, sweeps through the house, cleaning.
She launched her professional singing career in 1995 with the R&B group Dignity. When Edsilia won the Soundmixshow in 1996, she achieved her breakthrough. The following year, she also won the European Soundmixshow and released her first solo single, "Baby It's You." In 1998, Edsilia represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest, and with success! Her single "Hemel en Aarde" reached fourth place, making it the highest-charting Dutch entry of the past 35 years. When Edsilia released the hit "What Have You Done to Me" in 2002, as a precursor to the album "Face to Face," she was nominated for a TMF Award in the Best R&B category. A year later, she received another nomination, this time for Best Female National Singer. With versatility as her strength, she continued to build her career and in 2004 toured with jazz pianist Michiel Borstlap, where she combined jazz with pop.
EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2021 PRESENTATION
Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley, and Jan Smit will host the two semifinals and the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. The three presenters will open the three live shows for an audience of approximately 180 million viewers, interview the artists in the green room, and oversee the scoring process from Rotterdam Ahoy. "With this trio of presenters, we've chosen three people with enormous presenting talent, all of whom also started their careers as performers," says Sietse Bakker, Executive Producer Event for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
"Two Eurovision Song Contest appearances, two points counts, two Eurovision in Concert appearances, and she's also one of the most authentic and distinctive artists our country has to offer. The Eurovision fan community has taken Edsilia to its heart, so the choice of Edsilia as one of our three presenters needs little explanation," says Sietse Bakker.
