Impact of war

What does war do with a person? How do you express experiences that are sometimes difficult to capture in words? Arnhem fashion designer Mirte Engelhard is looking for answers in her fashion collection Impact of War.

Mirte Engelhard created a fashion collection for Museum Arnhem with nine outfits that make the themes memory , loss , strength and hope tangible. She spoke with nine people, each with their own experience of war and view of freedom.  The collection is a visual translation of their personal stories, with fashion as a powerful means to reflect on the impact of war through time.

Mirte uses residual materials, upcycled fabrics and sustainable techniques. The choice of fabrics, colors and details brings the personal stories of the participants to life, so that each item of clothing reflects the complex experience of war and freedom.

Resistance = Standing
