Organization

In 2014, the municipality of Arnhem initiated an innovative public commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem. This resulted in the Bridge to Liberation Experience, a multimedia event at the John Frost Bridge. A new tone for commemoration was set: with enormous reach and widespread recognition among broad sections of society. The success of the events led to the establishment of the Bridge to Liberation Foundation, which has been responsible for the Experience since 2015.

In addition to a daily executive team, the Bridge to Liberation Foundation has a diverse and professional, unpaid board. Board members with varying capacities jointly determine policy and contribute to the quality of the foundation's products. All board members have waived their expense reimbursements. The team works entirely on a contract basis, with contracts in place. The foundation endorses the following governance codes:

Fair Practice Code , Governance Code Culture and Code Diversity and Inclusion

what we do

The Bridge to Liberation Foundation has set itself the goal of reflecting on the impact of the Battle of Arnhem in a new way, with a broad audience. Learning from this and translating lessons learned to the present and the future increases the relevance of the impact of war and the value of freedom for future generations.

From 2022 to 2025, we will further embody our mission by sharing the historical international relevance of the Battle of Arnhem, as part of Operation Market Garden (1944). We will shape these themes together with our client, the municipality of Arnhem, partners from the Airborne Region, and (inter)national museums and commemorative organizations.

BRIDGE TO
LIBERATION

Every year we organize the free multimedia public program, Bridge to Liberation, where everyone feels welcome, sharing memories is central, and education and participation arise from it.
We approach each target group in our own intriguing ways. With original, interactive side projects focused on conveying the impact of war and the value of freedom, we know how to engage everyone.

EDUCATION AND
PARTICIPATION

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE DO THIS

New generations bring with them different needs. As we become increasingly distant from WWII, it's important to give commemoration a different form and purpose, beyond simply remembering, honoring, and offering solace. Within this new commemoration, stories from the past remain important, both now and in the future. These memories demonstrate that certain dilemmas are timeless. Bridge to Liberation serves a broad audience within our modern society.
