Francis Broekhuijsen starred in our show last year.✨ This year, he'll join us in a 10-part vlog series to search for the Airbone❤️ . What exactly is that Airborne heart? Why do we feel a deep connection to that history? What does freedom mean?

Together with the Arteffects Academy, Francis will approach young and old on the street, give you a look behind the scenes and meet the people of Bridge to Liberation 2021.

Thea Bouwhuis

Thea Bouwhuis (90) is an eyewitness to the Battle of Arnhem and experienced the subsequent evacuation and reconstruction. Thea is a regular visitor to the Airborne Museum, where she shares her stories with future generations. Francis hears about everything she witnessed as a child, what she had to leave behind, and then rebuilt.

THEO JANSSEN

An over-the-top Arnhem vlog episode in which Francis meets Theo Janssen on the hallowed football grounds of the Gelredome. Theo is an Arnhem native through and through, having played for Vitesse for years, taking a stint at Dutch clubs like FC Twente and Ajax, and when a European career beckoned, he stayed, because leaving Arnhem wasn't an option.

THE NEW GENERATION

This vlog might surprise you too. Francis speaks with a group of students from the Rijn IJssel school. When you think of young people between the ages of 16 and 21, you might not immediately think that World War II has an impact on them. But things turned out quite differently..

The students shared wonderful personal stories about the impact of war and what freedom means to them. Even in this generation, a true Airborne ❤️.

In this episode, we talk with Airborne expert and veteran Thijs van der Laan. His personal experience and historical knowledge allow him to relentlessly discuss the impact of war. Besides the historical stories, his personal accounts of his deployments deeply touch many people. That's why he regularly shares these stories with the new generation, so we never forget.

PHION

Since our very first edition in 2013, we've been collaborating with Phion - the Orchestra of Gelderland and Overijssel - and what a pleasure it is. Every year, they open with Beethoven's 5th Symphony and accompany the various artists. It's also special for the musicians to delve into a new musical genre each year.
